Mill Street Books

Almonte is a small but vibrant community located just west of Ottawa, on the unceded land of the Anishinaabe-Algonquin people. With the Mississippi River running through the heart of downtown, Almonte was historically a mill town with a thriving textile industry. Almonte is perhaps best known as the hometown of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, and nowadays might be recognized as the setting of numerous feel-good Hallmark movies, particularly those with a Christmas Romance theme. More locally, Almonte is known for being a hub of arts and culture in our region, with a strong local business scene that we at Mill Street Books are happy to be a part of.

Mill Street Books has been here for 29 years, and I am the third owner. I experienced my own "Hallmark" moment during the pandemic, when I quit my Engineering career in Montreal, moved to this charming small town to buy this bookstore, and was warmly welcomed by a wonderful book-loving community. I think our store regulars will be very keen to embark on the Sunday Letter Project with us, as our customers are very passionate about supporting our initiatives to bring people together, whether through our two book clubs or literary events featuring Canadian authors.
