Arcanes is an independent bookshop founded in 1828 in Châteauroux, in central France. We offer nearly 35,000 titles across literature, humanities, children’s books, comics and graphic novels, art books, and personal development. Since 2020, we have also had a fine art section, alongside our stationery and board game departments.

Founded in 2022 in an atmospheric historic building on Market Place, Pickering Book Tree is a calm and welcoming haven to slow down and browse a large range of new books and art supplies. Community is important to us, and we host regular events from author interviews and book clubs, to gin tasting evenings, live music and more. Having a positive impact both locally and globally — in our small way — is at the heart of what we do!
